One of the first things anyone can learn about Dawn is that she is a proud mom.
“My son Andre’ is a freelance photographer for The Reader. I am so proud of his photography and journalism, his artwork has graced the cover of The Reader many times,”.
It was through her son that Dawn was able to hear about Omaha LoCo and get connected with LoCo’s general manager, Clay Seaman. In doing so, she was able to help Seaman reach non-profits in the local area.
“I started out doing deliveries to the various Food Pantry’s. My past work has put me in contact with many community programs,” Dawn says, “I was happy to connect Omaha LoCo with a couple of great food distribution partners.”
Like his mother, her son has also made an impact in the local community through his work.
“I had such a proud mom moment being recognized as ‘Andre’s mom’ when I started delivering to the Heart Ministry Food Pantry.”
During her time driving for LoCo, Dawn has experienced the appreciation food pantries and small restaurants have given her for the work she does, especially considering the pandemic that continues to impact neighborhoods nationwide.
“I love being able to be part of the team bringing food to people in need and impacted by the pandemic here in my community.”
She laid out her day-to-day routine of what it’s like to build relationships with each organization.
“Those days for me would start out at the restaurants, where I received appreciation from the restaurant owners for my time and for the program with LoCo,” Dawn says, “Then I’d go to the food pantry’s to drop off meals, oftentimes right into the hands of people in the community, and everybody was so full of gratitude.”
As a driver, Dawn enjoys the opportunity to connect with restaurants and see their unique dishes and specials.
“I really love getting to know all these great restaurants. I enjoy them as a customer, too,” Dawn says, “I also love LoCo because I have the greatest dispatchers. They make everything really easy.”
As for her future with LoCo, Dawn is excited to see what’s in store.
“Where do I see myself in the next couple of years? Stay tuned… It’s going to be truly amazing,”.
